Sirius/XM NFL analyst Adam Caplan joined "The Really Big Show" with Tony Rizzo on Friday morning to discuss the Browns new front office and potential free agent quarterbacks in Cleveland.
On Whether the Browns will Sign a QB in Free Agency
They're going to have competition at quarterback. They are going to sign a veteran. The three names I've thrown out there are Chase Daniel of the Saints, Brian Hoyer of the Cardinals, and then I think you have to look at Alex Smith, who is going to be released if he's not traded.
On Browns Player Personnel Director Michael Lombardi's Feelings Toward QB Brandon Weeden
As I reported back in November, Michael Lombardi has been pulling the strings on personnel. He was advising Banner on who he liked and who he didn't like and the guys he was bashing was Brandon Weeden.
On Whether the Browns will Consider Niners QB Alex Smith
Smith played one year under Norv Turner with the 49ers. I know from talking to a few of their executives when I was at training camp over the years that they really thought Turner made some progress with Alex Smith.
On Saints QB Chase Daniel
He's had some really good pre-seasons and he has a good arm. They have really developed him. He's not tall at 6 feet even, but he was a good college quarterback at Missouri. As an undrafted free agent, he was able to become Drew Brees back-up. That speaks well of him.
On Browns CEO Joe Banner
He's made it perfectly clear he's going to be way more involved in personnel. That, to me, is a major mistake. Joe's not qualified to be making personnel decisions. He doesn't know how to watch tape. I've talked to people that work with him and that's not his strength. His strength is contractual. That's where he should stay.
